South Korea coach Paulo Bento has apologized to his players his outburst against referee, Anthony Taylor during Ghana clash.
The Portuguese trainer will not be in the dugout when the Asians face his home country Portugal in the 2022 World Cup on Friday due to suspension.
After the defeat against Ghana, the Portuguese was sent off for his enraged reaction to referee Anthony Taylor’s decision not to allow South Korea to take a last-minute corner kick.
“I’d like to tell my players that I’m sorry. I didn’t have the best of reactions to the situation. I’m human. I’m not insensitive. I think I’m a person of common sense and I think that common sense was lacking in the man who came from the Premier League”
“I respect him for the tremendous effort we were making and he showed inconsistency. I apologize to my players, because it was not a good example”, he lamented.
With two games completed in Group H, Portugal leads with six points, already qualified, followed by Ghana with three points, while South Korea and Uruguay have just one.
“They have been working with me all this time. It will not be exactly the same as me being on the bench, but (the assistants) are good enough to do the job”, underlined Paulo Bento, who will not be able to have any kind of communication with his assistants.
“Football is like life: we have to accept a situation like this and move on. We must try to keep up the good work and learn from the mistakes of the last few games. Against a team like Portugal, we have to give our all. our limit. The ability to organize ourselves is what has led us to leave a good image”, he added.
