A founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Nyaho Nyaho -Tamakloe has chided president Akufo-Addo for not firing his former Senior Minister Mr. Yaw Osafo-Maafo over his ethnocentric statement he made against the Asantes.
Dr Nyaho Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has also accused Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo of not being a listening President enough to take such a bold decision.
“Akufo Addo is not a listening president. A lot has happened even the recent statement by Yaw Osafo-Maafo. I can assure you if it was Kufour, he would have fired him straight because it is creating a problem that in years can develop into something in this country”. Dr Nyaho Tamakloe observed
In a leaked audio that has gone viral, the Senior Advisor to the President is heard saying Asantes were nowhere near the struggle of the country’s independence but his forefathers from the Eastern region are the people who actually led the struggle and fought for Ghana.
Many individuals and groups have condemned the statement made by Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo except President Akufo-Addo.
In the Ashanti Region, some Chiefs and opinion groups have called for either the dismissal or resignation of the appointee.
Dr Nyaho Nyaho -Tamakloe, however, cautioned Mr. Osafo-Maafo saying no one in the country as a political character including himself can destroy the country with such an ethnocentric statement.
“Let me make this thing clear, no one political leader or a soldier or church leader or whoever the person is should dream that he/she can destroy this country based on ethnocentric ideas”, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe cautioned.
According to him, Ghanaians are interwoven hence any attempt by characters like Osafo-Maafo to bring division would fail outright.
“This country, we are interwoven and that was done by Nkrumah long ago so if any politician thinks he can be ethnocentric to divide and destroy this sort of unity that we have he is a joke. The country would have burnt into pieces long ago. We are interwoven so you cannot use tribe to destroy this country. They must get that clear. Some might attempt it but they will fail.” He stressed.
