A former Ashanti Deputy Regional Minister, Joseph Yammin is claiming, that more people in the Ashanti Region have been flaunting their National Democratic Congress (NDC) Shirts as compared to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the party’s stronghold.
Touching on the impact of the NPP in the Ashanti Region during a radio discussion on Ultimate 106.9 FM, as the party marks its 30th anniversary, Mr. Yammin is of the view that the NPP under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has become unattractive as it has failed to live up to expectation.
‘’ This time there are a lot of people who are proud to put on the NDC T-shirts, they are proud members of NDC who dress neatly in the NDC T-shirt going about their work but there are NPP people you will find going to farm with NPP Shirt, the Suame magazine with NPP shirt, they try to do dirty work within the NPP T-shirts because they are not proud to wear it’’.
‘’Those you see wearing the NDC T-shirts are those going to the banks and other places, that is to tell you the respect the people in Ashanti Region have for both the NPP and the NDC’’ Yammin mocked.
The NDC National Organizer hopeful is delighted about the enroots the NDC has been making in the Ashanti Region owing to the fact that, the region is the stronghold of the NPP where it gets most of its electoral fortunes.
He was however not surprised, the Majority Leader and MP for Suame Constituency was hooted and pelted when he visited his constituency a fortnight ago.
‘’ You see, the people who pelted Osei Kyei-Mensah- Bonsu are not NDC people as he claims, these are disgruntled members of the NPP who have been disappointed by their leaders and party’’
‘’ How can one even contemplate these were NDC’s people, I know some of the guys, they work on my cars anytime I go to Suame, they are NPP people that I know for a fact” Yammin noted.
Ashanti Region is considered a stronghold for the NPP. There are 47 constituencies in the region of which NPP currently holds 44 and NDC holds 3.
In recent times, agitations of underdevelopment has become topical with the youth in the region threatening to campaign against all Members of Parliament in the Ashanti Region.
