NCCE launches Citizenship Week Celebration in Awutu

The Awutu-Senya District office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has launched its annual citizenship week celebration with a reminder on school pupils of their responsibilities and role as citizens, to help build a strong, vibrant and democratic Ghana.

Mr Cephas Kofi Agboada, Awutu-Senya District Director of the NCCE, made the reminder in an address he delivered at an engagement with some selected Junior High School (JHS), pupil in the area, in respect of this year’s celebration on the theme: “Sustaining Our Democracy; Ghanaian values in practice: The Role the Child”, at Awutu Bereku, the District Capital.

The event created a platform for the Commission to inculcate into the pupils, sense of patriotism, and the values of citizenship, as a means of preparing them to be responsible adults and leaders in their communities and the country.
According to Mr. Agboada, the theme was chosen to drive home the essence of national unity and also to school the citizenry, particularly the youth how to sustain peaceful co-existence and also to join the crusade in the fight for policy makers to speed up development agenda to better the lots of the citizenry.

He advised the pupils in the district that as future man-power of the country, they must respect the elderly and National Institutions, as well as shun bad companies and all forms of negative tendencies that will endanger their future.

Rev. Dr Mrs Winifred A. Boateng, Awutu-Senya West, Deputy Coordinating Director, who was the resource person, took the school pupils through the theme and emphasized the need for the youth to adopt Ghanaian core values in all their endeavours to help them become patriotic citizens.

He further advised them to be law abiding, concentrate on their education and to strive for excellence, by working hard work with self-discipline and to embrace high sense of trustworthiness and volunteerism in all their dealings.
Basic school pupils numbering about 670, from Awutu SDA JHS, St. Mark Girls JHS, Awutu SS Peter and Paul JHS (A and B), Awutu AME Zion JHS (A and B), Awutu D/A JHS (A and B) and Awutu JHS (A and B) were part of.

Other participants included teachers and staff of the district Education Directorate and it was sponsored by Madam Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui Member of Parliament for Awutu-Senya Constituency.
