IGP Has Turned Into a “Puppet of a Corrupt Regime” Protecting Gang of Thieves In Govt – George Opare Addo

National Youth Organizer of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), George Opare Addo, has expressed his disgust with the attitude and performance of the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

According to him, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, who by virtue of his appointment as an IGP made many Ghanaians heave a sigh of relief in hope that he would maintain law and order in the country, has now turned into a “puppet of a corrupt regime”.

George Opare Addo accused the IGP of doing the bidding of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government instead of him executing his professional duties.

“While the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare enjoyed the goodwill of Ghanaians when he was appointed, and exhibited traits of an upright officer ready to honour the tenets of his profession, he has turned out to be a puppet of a corrupt regime. Annoyingly, the IGP, without mincing words, has carved an unenviable niche for himself as someone comically interested in protecting a gang of thieves in government rather than the very poor people whose taxes he is feeding on,” he fumed in a statement sighted by

The NDC National Youth Organizer further said, “the Dampare-led Police administration speaks to one undeniable fact – that the Police hierarchy, against the wishes of some of its junior officers, have sworn to fight any well-meaning Ghanaian who dares question the wanton dissipation of scarce resources by the reckless Akufo Addo/Bawumia government”.

He made these comments in relation to a court action by the Police to thwart the demonstration scheduled for June 28 to 29, 2022 by pressure group, Arise Ghana.

According to a Police statement, “in the interest of Public Order and safety, we entreated the organizers to reconsider the time frame and start the demonstration early in the day and end before night falls” but “on June 22, 2022, the Police received a verbal response from the organizers to the effect that they are unable to change the time of the demonstration”.

“Due to the lack of agreement between the Police and the organizers on the time for demonstration and location for their planned picketing, the Police have had no option but to submit the process to the court for a determination. This was duly communicated to Arise Ghana in a letter on June 20, 2022,” the statement further read.

To George Opare Addo, “the Police hierarchy have taken up this unpatriotic hatchet job because they are accomplice in the unreasonable raping of our dear country”.

He held this position because, “a protest such as the Arise Ghana demonstration should and must be embraced by every Ghanaian who wishes this country well. The only adversaries would be the criminals in government looting the State, and sadly, the Police hierarchy appears to have gleefully joined them as their protective cover”.

He asked; “If the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has performed to the satisfaction of all, why would it be remote-controlling the IGP to block a peaceful street protest?”

He continued that, “history has it that failed governments, like the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, always resort to weakening of otherwise independent State institutions in order to have a field day to steal without anyone raising a winker”.

The NDC National Youth Organizer assured President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that “the IGP and his cohorts may be in bed with them today, but the day of reckoning where the Ghanaian people would say ‘enough is enough’ is now here with us”.
