Emphasis on PR in Ghana worrying – Kwabena Agyepong

Former Presidential Spokesperson Kwabena Agyei Agyepong observed that there is too much emphasis on Public Relations(PR) in Ghana to the neglect of performance.

This he emphasized has turned upside down.

“We’ve got things upside down in this country. Talk is cheap, what is important is that when you are doing something good you don’t need to speak too much about it. When people feel the impact of it, you don’t need to tell them,” he said on Ghana Television.

“Yes it is good to explain your policies but we are overemphasizing PR in this country and people have created enterprise out of it. That is not what we require as government, as a party and as a people,” he said.

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong also complained about conflict of interest in the various Institutions and agencies in the country.

To him, it is sickening that Directors in various Institutions form companies to offer contracts to themselves; a situation he believes is worrying.

“Directors of Institutions form companies and appropriate contracts to themselves. That should not be acceptable. Some Engineer colleagues who are working have also formed companies and are able to appropriate contracts for themselves. That has to stop. Quality assurance should be in all aspects of our lives,” he said.

He is of the belief that when one grows and occupies some position of influence, it’s imperative that you want to serve and not amass wealth.
