The National Association of Graduate Teacher (NAGRAT) has served notice to embark on a strike by the end of this month, June 2022, if the proposed 20 percent Cost of Living Allowance (CoLA) is not paid.
“We have come to our wits end and can no longer bear the pain of the high cost of living. We therefore demand of our leadership to pay heed to the clarion call of laying down our tools by end of June.”
Mr Godwin Yevu-Awoonor, Eastern Regional Chairman of the Association announced this at a press conference in Koforidua.
He the Government had shown great insensitivity to the plight of “our members and the Ghanaian worker in general and we cannot sit unconcerned whilst our members go through this suffering which has no end in sight.”
On May Day 2022, Organized Labour appealed to the Government of Ghana to grant at least a 20 percent CoLA, in the face of the rising cost of living and high inflation in the country.
“We have been waiting since, but not seen any commitment from Government to ameliorate the suffering of the ordinary Ghanaian worker,” he added.
